Simon Lloyd-Evans
Chief Information Officer, Building and Housing group, MBIE
Simon is currently the Chief Information Officer for the Building and Housing group of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, a role he took up in late 2010.
A key strategic focus for Simon is GeoBuild™, the Ministry’s strategy to take a holistic and interoperable approach to the building and construction system to encourage improvement in performance and productivity. GeoBuild™ will create a national information exchange framework that digitises building, geographical and environmental data. The information will be available online for uses affecting the built environment, and ultimately the whole environment. The first step in this strategy is the design of a nationally consistent on-line building consenting system.
Other opportunities and outcomes are likely, among which is the creation of an environment to support innovative, geospatially enabled, business products and services.
The Ministry is also a cornerstone partner in the Building and Construction Sector Productivity Partnership, a joint venture between the Government and the Construction Sector to achieve a 20% increase in productivity by 2020. The Productivity Partnership has close ties to GeoBuild™ and Simon is involved in the formation of interoperability standards across both of these strategies.
Simon has worked for over 25 years in Information Services for many industries and sectors, such as Policing, Health, Insurance and Banking. He now assists organisations with their strategic use of information to deliver long term sustainable outcomes.
Immediately prior to Building and Housing Simon worked in the Aged Care sector, which is also looking to use geospatial data, in its case to understand how best to deliver services to the elderly.
Simon’s achievements cover such initiatives as using interactive digital games to improve health outcomes; technically integrating multiple company acquisitions; implementing biometric technologies to improve workforce management; designing service strategies that tripled customer satisfaction levels; and turning loss making accounts to profit.
Simon has a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration.
